All of you have been so involved throughout my entire pregnancy, I thought it only fair that I share Liam’s birth story with you! So here it is. My 36 hour labor story…⬇️
On Saturday night on April 28th, after going out to eat for Mexican & a spicy virgin margarita, I felt what I thought were consistent contractions. (I was 40w 3ds) So much so we went into the hospital to get checked. I was 1.5 centimeters dilated but the “contractions” died down so they ended up sending us home. False alarm!
But only a few short hours later, on Sunday at 3:00am, I felt my first actual contraction!! I labored at home until around 3pm. Going in the bath, bouncing on the ball, doing a puzzle with my sister & husband. We knew it was time to head to the hospital when I started bawling crying out of the blue.. Hospital here we come!🏥
Once we got there, they checked me, and my cervix was still only 1.5 centimeters dilated… Determined to get things moving naturally, I spent the next three hours walking, doing lunges, and squatting around the hospital. Despite all that effort, I was STILL the same. at 1.5 centimeters… After almost 19 hours of labor with no real progress, they offered me the option to either go home and labor there or be admitted with the help of a cervical balloon. I was feeling pretty discouraged and tired at this point, so I made the decision to stay!
After we checked into our room and got the balloon, I was finally able to get the epidural around 11pm Sunday night. I felt so much better and was able to relax and sort of rest throughout the night.
Since I couldn’t move around because of the epidural, they started me on Pitocin late Monday morning to keep my contractions progressing.
Around 2:30pm on Monday, it was FINALLY time to push! After only pushing for 30 minutes, our little Liam finally joined us at 3:05pm on April 29th!(& I didn’t tear 🙌)
I have to say, it wasn’t at all how I thought my labor would go, but I am so happy I kept an open mind and stayed positive and calm throughout the entire process. All the nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing and made the whole experience wonderful. I wouldn’t change a thing!🤍
