Before we begin this blog, we want to start out by saying Stetson’s closet was only a year old when we first did this refresh!! What???  But here’s the thing… we honestly think everyone should be doing this at least once a year!! Okay, we’ve said it. Now we’ll get off our home-organizer-high-horse.

There’s nothing like a closet refresh to really get the good vibes going. There’s some sort of magic that happens when you sort through your closet. As you handle each and every item, you discover and identify all the things that no longer suit you. And through the process of letting go of those things, you begin to feel a sense of renewed energy.

Before you know it, you’re cranking up the tunes on your portable speaker and dancing around with excitement because you now see space in between your clothes on the rods! Stetson had similar reactions, only for her, it was literally shedding tears of joy. If you saw our story on Instagram, you know what we’re talking about.

5 Quick Tips to Organize & Elevate Your Closet

  1. Organize your clothes by color or style: ie; group all your long sleeves together, all your tank tops together, etc!
  2. You’ve probably heard this time and time again but using all matching, slim-style hangers not only creates a cohesive look but it also nearly doubles your hanging space! The velvet ones are our favorites because they make it even more difficult for clothes to slip off.
  3. These lights really make the closet feel like we’re walking into a boutique! If you want to see the lights in action, check out our reel on Instagram here from Stetson’s closet refresh a while back.
  4. If you’re short on space, rotate your clothes out according to season. This also eliminates clutter and makes it easy to see what your options for the day actually are!
  5. Create zones for accessibility! Organize your closet based on frequency of use. Keep everyday essentials at eye level, occasional wear on higher/lower shelves, and seasonal or special-occasion items stored away neatly.

Organizing Pants

We love this pants hanger! These acrylic shelf dividers work great for a lot of things, especially keeping piles of denim neat and tidy.

How to Store Thick Scarves or Sweaters

We use these linen storage containers in our linen closet but they work great for other things like blankets, sweaters, or scarves. Sturdy yet lightweight bins are also an easy way to keep these various items organized.

Inspiration on Organizing Your Accessories!

Stetson had two goals for this refresh:

1) To get rid of a lot of clothes in order to make room for all the new stuff she got recently.

2) To create an area for accessories in her closet because let’s face it… the top of the dresser just wasn’t doing it anymore.

She had a couple of shelves in her closet that weren’t being utilized to their fullest potential so why not use them use for displaying her jewelry, sunglasses, and handbags? And if you’re wondering about how Stetson’s husband Brandon feels about her taking up the entire back wall? As long as she doesn’t creep into his side of the closet, he’s okay with it! (whew)

And how cute is this glass lidded box with gold trim! It adds that extra special touch, don’t ya think?

Here are three more foolproof Amazon products we use in our homes to organize accessories. There’s no better hat stand than this one! We keep the claw clips organizer in our bathroom, but we’ve had lots of home-organization clients who wanted them in their closet. And Stetson loves the luxurious feel of this sunglasses case.

If you don’t have space in your closet for your accessories and jewelry, here are more options we’ve used and loved:
